Our Themes
We are working in 6 thematic areas, taking an infrastructural and systemic lens to the subjects:
These themes will be investigated nationally, regionally, and locally across the UK, empowering Black people and Black-led organisations to be centred in the conversations and research outputs. We expect the work to be intersectional as multiple themes are represented in the discussions about particular phenomena across the UK. For example, the impact of policy such as the government’s Levelling Up campaign and how that is going to affect the Black community.
Our current focus is civil society.
Upcoming publications will be about the organisational culture of Black-led social enterprises; challenges and opportunities for social empowerment; the journey to recovery post-peak pandemic; and the lived experience of those working in such organisations. If you would like to be notified about when we publish these publications and any future ones, please sign-up here to our monthly newsletter

- Social Mobility - education, early intervention, progression and transitions
- Civil Society - charities, social enterprises, community businesses, volunteer-run groups
- Workforce - employment, underemployment, entrepreneurship
- Identity - race, gender, LGBTQIA+
