We centre the UK's Black community through research

find out more
Centre Black is a research centre committed to the production of high-quality research and advocacy that centres the experiences of Black people across the UK. Hosted by Do it Now Now.

The mission for Centre Black, is to apply academic rigour to subjects of concern within the Black community, while empowering leaders within the community to significantly contribute to the research and outputs of the centre.

Our vision is to create a society in which Black people are centred in the conversations that determine our life experiences in the UK.

The research we do will empower community leaders to become thought-leaders within their local, regional, and national settings, contextualising their lived experience with data they can also contribute to. We will also actively seek to influence policy and advocate for the needs of underserved communities across the UK on the basis of the community-led research we publish and disseminate.

Do it Now Now is a non-profit committed to the empowerment of Black people through the provision of access to opportunities for social mobility through entrepreneurship and employment. We know that Black people are typically earning less and have much less opportunity for economic activity and social mobility than our racial counterparts. We want to change that. By focusing on the Black community we are helping to create local opportunities, local role models, individual growth, and empowerment that can affect the trajectory of whole communities, one neighbourhood at a time.
We are interested in engaging partners in a shared learning journey as we work together to further the anti-racist agenda in the UK’s structural and institutional systems.

Our long-term goal is to utilise research and knowledge creation as an effective method of positioning Black advocates and grassroots organisers as leaders on the discourse of experiences of the UK’s structural and institutional systems. Through this new distribution of voice, new perspectives will be formed as new questions are asked of the systems and their infrastructure, we will affect policy and legislative change.

Our short-term goal is to empower grassroots organisations and advocates to use our data and findings to develop new recommendations, models of support, services and more that will better provide solutions to the core needs of Black people engaging with the UK’s structural and institutional systems every day. We will empower communities across the UK to have rich conversations that will call on their local leaders to advocate for more funding for better services.
